Yes they are destroying our culture in some ways, and in some other ways they are helpful in inculcating good knowledge. We were well known for our tradition and culture. But because of these foreign channels people is getting attracted towards western culture. As one of our famous Indian SWAMY VIVEKANANDA explained about Indian culture in a meeting of Chicago, which inspired the people of other countries to great extent that they wanted to follow the Indian tradition. But it?s unfortunate thing that today we are forgetting out Indian culture and trying to follow foreign culture. we know that people get attracted towards bad then good .So these channels have become a source of getting attracted towards bad then good. Channels reflect ones culture to a great extent. So they are a source to become well known about different cultures. And also to know about their standards of living. So finally we should grasp well and leave the bad .Any technology is useful is we use it in proper way.

According to me it does not spoils our culture because most of the programme are copied like american idol 2 Indian idol and big brothers 2 big boss and also it depends on persons thinking like what are they watching.

With the disbanding of the Prasar Bharati that had enjoyed unquestioned monopoly for ten years from 1982 to 1992 and with the launch of Satellite Television, a swarm of foreign TV channels has entered for Indian viewers.The issue is whether these channels have come out with beneficial influence on viewers or baneful.

Today?s generation is astray, severely cut off from their cultural roots, traditional prescriptions and the native civilized way of living. Much of this is attributed to the influence acquired by watching programmes shown in foreign television channels.
Whether it is in the area of the usage of the mother tongue or any other commonly-accepted language used for communication and exchange of ideas, food habits, living pattern, dress code or social ethics and etiquettes that are expected to be shown, there is gross travesty on part of today?s youth that is observed with distress by parents, guardians and elders, thanks to watching programmes shown by foreign TV channels
There has been cultural invasion by foreign TV channels. Indian viewers, particularly the youth, are prone to acquire values prevailing in Western societies that are anathema to Indian ones. They blindly imitate their way of speaking, gesturing, displaying ?attitude?, indulging in brash and boorish behaviour, disrespect towards the establishment and hierarchy, as it were.
Worse, they take to smoking, alcoholism, drugs, and promiscuous ways when striking relationships with members of the opposite gender and are known to indulge in juvenile crimes, thanks to the baneful influence on account of watching programmes in foreign TV channels.
Indian viewers, particularly the youth, display obscenity in dress, speech, thought and general demeanor. Perversity sets in, resulting in imbalance and disorder in daily living. Programmes shown by foreign TV channels are responsible for this.
On the social plane, marital and domestic harmony gets adversely affected by programmes shown by foreign TV channels. Domestic violence, family splits, live-in relationships, absence of stability in a family, et al, all follow as a result of this.
Prohibitive stuff like pornography and degenerative content that are offending to the sensibilities damage the psyche of the young viewer, who adopts such practices, to the detriment of not only himself/herself but of that of the family, community and the nation, at large.

Culture and values cannot be dented and damaged without our ?permission?. Unless we become weak and vulnerable to external influences, we remain unaffected by such influences. In this context, foreign TV channels cannot be held entirely responsible for the damage to Indian culture.
The secular feature of India is on account of the presence of various cultures and civilizations, over the centuries. Several invaders came to India, along with their cultures and civilizations. They have settled and thrived harmoniously, leading to ?Unity in Diversity?, which has no parallel in any other country of the world. Similarly, the Indian viewer can preserve his/her inherent values, while he/she welcomes the programmes shown by foreign TV channels.
Consequent to globalization, the world has become one global village. Hence we should have knowledge and awareness of the traditions, practices, customs and civilizations of other countries. Foreign TV channels contribute significantly towards the building of such awareness.
Foreign TV channels do not always show perverse and vulgar stuff. Many programmes shown by foreign TV channels are enriching, entertaining, educative and appealing by their content and presentation. Discovery, National Geographic, Cartoon Network, Ten Sports, et al, are worth viewing and being enlightened.
With the DTH technology at hand, parents can prevent children from viewing forbidden programmes by subscribing to selected channels and locking those channels that are considered to be showing prohibitive stuff.
Many Indian channels also have programmes which have deleterious content; so it is not fair to put the entire blame on foreign TV channels for the damage caused to Indian culture.
Foreign TV channels only show what takes place in those countries, as per the culture and social norms prevailing over there. It is left to us viewers to separate the chaff from the grain; imbibe the good aspects and reject the bad ones.

Conclusion:
Every issue has two sides; we should take only the positive side, what is good for us, as we are only responsible what befalls us. The same logic applies to viewing programmes shown by foreign TV channels. However, the government should take necessary steps for the controlled telecast of visual media, whether it pertains to foreign TV channels or local ones.

Foreign Television channels are destroying our culture. In my opinion as the coin has two sides ... this topic is also having both advantages and disadvantages. Coming to advantages some of the foreign channels like BBC, Discovery, National Geography, Animal Planet, BSNC, Star sports, ten sports... are very much useful to us to update our knowledge. And the technology used by these channels is excellent. But coming to the disadvantages of course there are some channels, which destroys our Indian culture. All it depends on our mind set. If we use those channels in right way they will be useful to us. If we use in wrong way it creates bad impact on our culture.
